Resembling the Black Leopard of Bombay, India, this Bombay takes it name from its wild cousin. A look all it's own and a friendly disposition, you'll find the Bombay cat aware of what goes on around it.

The Bombay first came on the scene in the late 1950's and is a cross between the Burmese and the black American Shorthair.
Champion status in the United States was given to the Bombay Cat in 1976.

The Bombay is a medium sized cat, an is heavy for its size with medium length legs. Its coat is very short and fine and it has an incredible shine . Black is the only color variety. The jet black color is so important that in some American cat associations 50 percent of the points are reserved for the quality of the coat. The eye color of deep copper is also an important consideration for a champion.

The Bombay Cat is intelligent and active. They fetch naturally and love to be around people. They can get into trouble if they spend too much time alone. The make great pets and a very affectionate. They are less vocal than most cats due to the cross breeding, but are known to rarely stop purring.
