The RagaMuffin is a large cuddly breed, with a plush, semi-long coat and a
warm, friendly disposition. Bred first and foremost for a sweet, laid-back
temperament, they are true people-loving cats. They get along well with children
and other pets, and they LOVE to be where the action is. The coat length varies
slightly but in general it is low-maintenance compared to that of other
longhaired breeds. They also tend to be soft-pawed, meaning that they almost
never put out their claws. They are a slow maturing breed of cat, in that they
don't reach full maturity until 3-4 years of age. Males average between 15-20
pounds (or more) and females smaller, between 9-14 pounds.
The RagaMuffin is STRICTLY AN INDOOR PET. Their docile nature makes them
especially vulnerable to outside dangers, they tend to think everyone should be
their friend! They are usually pretty fearless when it comes to people or other
animals. They don't possess the same defense instincts as most other cats do, so
they must be kept inside and protected. The RagaMuffin is a direct descendant of
Josephine, the original Rag-type cat. There are many colors/patterns available.
Solids, Tabbies, Torties, Lynx, Mink, as well as blue-eyed pointed varieties.
Ragamuffins are currently accepted for registration by UFO, ICE, and ACFA.
